What is Artificial Intelligence?

04 Nisan 2022

Robots that behave like humans, computers that defeat world champions in chess, driverless vehicles, chatbots... Artificial intelligence has spread to many areas of our daily lives. In our world where technology is advancing rapidly, artificial intelligence affects our activities in many areas such as health, working life, education, and the defense industry. It is possible to say that artificial intelligence is a solution to many problems. We can even say that we have become unable to think of a life without them.

The idea that machines can think like humans and gain the ability to solve problems is the subject of many different fields from art to science. Pushing the boundaries of our imaginary world, this problem was expressed in the mid-century by Alan Turing, the father of famous mathematicians and computer science, in the mid-1940s. Turing, who had a great share in winning the war by solving the enigma algorithm of the Germans during the Second World War, said, "Can machines think like people?" He made his name with his works that put his question into practice. Here, the concept of artificial intelligence was shaped by this question.

Artificial Intelligence Applications

Artificial intelligence applications include studies organized to give machines the ability to think like humans and solve problems. Artificial intelligence first appears as a term coined by John McCarthy in 1955. While the first artificial intelligence studies include computer programs that can play games such as chess, today artificial intelligence companies have developed their work up to autonomous vehicles.

There are three main types of artificial intelligence. These types are categorized under three main headings: artificial narrow intelligence, artificial general intelligence, and artificial superintelligence. Artificial narrow intelligence emerges as the type of artificial intelligence that can copy human capabilities to achieve predetermined goals in a limited environment. Artificial general intelligence, on the other hand, is a type of artificial intelligence that can accomplish cognitive tasks that are complex enough to accomplish the challenging tasks that only human intelligence and perception capacity can accomplish. Artificial general intelligence performs operations using skills that it has learned before and self-learned. Artificial superintelligence can perform transactions far beyond human intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

There are two important working environments used by artificial intelligence studies. The first of these is machine learning and the second is deep learning. Machine learning is the area that enables the machine to reach new data and rational results using previously obtained data. In other words, the computer can create new numerical data using the data it has. Thus, the computer can learn on its thanks to machine learning. Deep learning, on the other hand, is a machine learning technique that creates outputs and answers without human intervention by using algorithms and big data systems.

Artificial intelligence is used in biometric systems such as HOLISTIKA to improve the image, verify the identity of the prints damaged for various reasons and bring the most accurate candidate quickly. Artificial intelligence is also used effectively in remote customer acquisition processes, digital human chatbot processes, and multimedia data analysis processes.
